I am at my wits end. Yesterday Yuki (3 years old)  pooped on the carpet. (poop was normal) This morning he peed on the bedspread. He was sleeping on the bed at night- not anymore- or at least for a long time.  I am angry and confounded. Could there be a medical problem? Could this be stress related? He is a very sensitive dog. My husband and I have been under extreme stress lately. (He just lost his job due to company downsizing and he is turning 60 in a couple of months). Could Yuki be picking up on the stress? The strange thing is before we discovered the pee, Yuki refused to eat this morning and sat frozen in the middle of the living room. He did eat later.
I am at a loss at what could be the matter. What could make him revert back to  being  not housebroken. Any ideas or advice?
Thanks - Beth

awww, he could be sensing the stress in the house. If it continues though I would get him checked out he may be not feeling well.

that is strange how you say he sat frozen maybe something scared him...   and that is why he wouldn't eat and peed on  the bed ...

I would take him to the vet just to rule out anything medical. He could have a urinary tract infection or something like that. I think I know what you mean by being frozen, when Hana doesn't feel well she just sits hunched over, staring at the floor.

I hope Yuki feels better soon!

I would recommend taking him to the vet as well.  Once you can rule a health issue it will be easier to get to the cause of the problem.

Sure hope You guys are ok, I know what you mean about the hubby getting laid off. Mine was from April til Aug, then called back and now they're going to do it again for all of Dec & Jan. My hubby is 56 and it's so hard to know what to do. Stick it out or try to find something else?? The stress can really get to you!! I hope everything works out for you and that Yuki fells better real soon!!!

Beth. It sounds like Yuki is picking up on you and your husband's extreme stress.  Yuki didn't become "un"housebroken.  They feel our stress.  He might have peed on the bed to show dominance - your husband is usually working and is sharing his turf.... and when he froze and didn't eat before you discovered the pee - HE already knew he was a bad boy and peed.  Just my 2 cents worth, might save a vet visit unless it keeps happening then maybe it is a medical problem.  I'm still working with Kenji on housebreaking him, ugh...has good days and not so good.  Good luck to you and your husband.

Thank you for everyone's posts and well wishes. I am thinking it might be stress after all. We are anticipating selling the house and we are changing things around in the house. My husband and I are, also,  in friendly but heated discussions about our future. My nerves are shot. Yuki must be picking up on all the negative energy around here. I did let him back up on the foot of the bed last night. ( I put a protective covering under him) There is no sense in changing his routine too much. There will be enough of that in the future. Thanks again- Beth

Might be stress.  I was once yelling at my 9 year old son for continually forgetting to bring home his school books or something along those lines.  (It wasnt' my finest parenting moment!!)   It's rare that I raise my voice, but he had gone over the limit.  Sadie was looking at me and went over and peed on her bed.   I was dumbfounded, but I think I scared her.

As far as a UTI goes, Boop had that once and was peeing all the time.   That could possibly explain the peeing but not the poop.

Hope things get better and the stress lets up a little.

Joan
