Reply with quote | #4 | Hi guys! I thought I posted an update before I wrote about the supplements, I must not have clicked Post Message, oops. I'm hanging in there. I'm on some pain meds so I can't really be on the computer for more than a few min at a time, I get kinda queasy. Thanks for the well wishes. I love this message board. I hope everyone is having a great day and is pain free. __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Should have checked the Forum first but I just got off the phone with Andrea's Mom at the hospital. She confirms Andrea is doing well, surgery was minimally invasive and she hopes to go home tomorrow. Andrea posted at 5:12 am because they got her up to do bloodwork then and she had just gone down for x-rays when I called. |

Reply with quote | #10 | Thanks everyone. I just woke up to take some more pain pills. I'm in a lot of pain, but the nurse thinks it's mostly muscular and not from the nerves or incision, so that's good. It's still the most intense pain I've ever felt in my life.
I miss my little munchkins, I wish they allowed dogs in the hospital. __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Reply with quote | #14 | I'm out of the loop. You had back surgery or something? Whatever it is, tell those nurses to give you WAY more pain pills. That's supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel when you have surgeries: a plethora of vicodin or morphine. ...Right? I don't know. I've never had surgery before. And if I had to have surgery I would probably cry like a baby. You're a lot braver than me, Andrea. __________________

Reply with quote | #15 | Andrea hope you are re-cooping well. The pain can be so intense I've heard...don't be shy with the pain pills-get a doggy bag for YOU.
Hope you can go home tomorrow, it's always comforting to be in our own surroundings and Hana and Harvey must be going nuts without you.
Take care and post if you feel up to it. Hugs.

Reply with quote | #16 | The nurse last night just could not believe all the drugs she gave me weren't working. They paged 3 doctors because nobody would call her back. Finally I got approved for more morphine. I'm taking 2 Norcos, 1 Flexeril and morphine now and I'm still in pain. Ugh.......
Not sure when I'm going to go home. I had PT today and it was horrible. They said I did good and walked but I'm in a ton of pain. Matt is taking good care of me. Sorry to be a downer, I don't have much of a happy update __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Reply with quote | #17 | You hurt like hell and worry about being a downer???? Girl, yip and yap all you want - you are entitled!!!!
I hate p.t. and my middle nephew is a pt'ist. I don't understand why when all you want to do is rest and nap they haul you off to the torture chamber. I went through it with a severely broken ankle and torn ligaments many years ago (two plates and 6 pins). My nephew fixed up my house for me and you may want to do some of this. He piled cushions up on a chair so I wouldn't have so far to go to sit down. A bath bench so I could sit while taking a shower (medical appliance rental places have this kind of thing). I used a walker as I couldn't deal with crutches - not enuf upper body strength. And best of all, he made sure I was well stocked up with wine, potato chips and plenty of murder mysteries. (The important things in life).
I'm really hoping you get to go home tomorrow - you recover a lot faster at home, can sleep when you want, Hana and Harvey will be all over you.
Poor Andrea, please get better soon.

Reply with quote | #19 | Thank heaven those days are gone when they wouldn't give pain meds in the hospital. They thought you should suffer!! Keep on them if you are still in pain until they find something that works. People don't respond the same way to different pain meds. There are plenty of different kinds they can try!! Hang in there, sorry about the PT, I hate PT!! Just get on here and vent all you want!! We'll be here! Feel better soon! __________________ Karen

Reply with quote | #21 | Hi everyone. Thanks for the kind words! Opening this thread made me smile. I've had a really rough few days. I'm still in the hospital. They put me on all kinds of pain meds and for some reason I have a high tolerance or something, nothing really helps.
The physical therapist cleared me to go home but the occupational therapist wants me here a bit longer.
My surgeon still hasn't come to see me and check on me, and I just found out he likely won't at all. Nice.
I had a nurse that got frustrated with me for the pain meds not helping. She actually rolled her eyes at me and took out her stress on me. My husband had to go talk to her in the hallway and asked her to apologize. Ridiculous
Hopefully next time I update I'll be home. __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Andrea I'm just fuming about that nurse rolling her eyes. I know they are hard working and have stress full jobs but it's their job to help comfort you-whatever it takes. Nice "patient rights" going on there! And the surgeon, I hear that's what a lot of them do. They do their job and see ya!!! Be nice if he could at least see how you are coping with the healing and pain level. I hate being treated like a number. next.
Hope you can go home today or tomorrow. Hang in there, your young and strong. I also have a very low tolerance for pain, hey nobody can help it if their nerve control center is sensitive. Get real nurse!!
Hugs to you... Debbie

Reply with quote | #23 | Hah wow that nurse is a bitch. How can your immediate reaction be annoyance if your patient tells you she's still in pain? That's crazy. Good thing your hubby is there to protect you from idiots. __________________

Reply with quote | #24 | That nurse was a real bitch. Unfortunately I had more rude nurses than caring ones. But... I'm home now!!!!!!! Yay! The dogs freaked out so bad when I came home. My dad is at the pharmacy picking up my pain meds for me and Matt has everything set up so that it's easy for me to get around. I'm pretty lucky. This is going to be a long healing process, I hope I can handle it. __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Reply with quote | #26 | I'm going to definitely try to not overdue it. I don't want to have to go through that all over again I am not allowed to do anything except walk to the bathroom for 4 weeks (possibly longer). No sitting up either, I either have to be laying down or walking. I sure hope the puppies behave themselves! My dad is taking the whole week off next week to help me out. __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Reply with quote | #29 | I don't have much good news. I'm still in tremendous amount of pain. When I woke up from my nap it was excruciating. I took my first shower since Monday. Matt helped me with it. He also moved all the furniture around so it's easier for me to get around and lay down, and he made me little 'room service' menus where all I do is circle what I want. He's been great, I'm very lucky. The dogs have been sleeping on the bed next to me all day. I think they know something is up.
I called the pain management clinic and whattya know, they're CLOSED. They are only open 8-4 Monday-Friday. What in the heck is someone supposed to do if they are dying of pain over the weekend?! Ridiculous. The girl who answered didn't know anything. So I called and had my surgeon paged. Of course he didn't call me back but his assistant did. She is calling a 'Medrol pain pack' I guess it's steroids. Then on Monday I will be calling the pain management doctor.
I feel so ignored, like nobody wants to help me (doctor wise). I'm really upset at the care I received and I will be writing a letter to the hospital when I feel up to it.

Andrea I hope the start of this week has been better for you. There's nothing worse than being in uncontrollable pain. I'm sure someone has already told you this, but just in case they haven't... When I was having knee issues my doctor told me to take the pain meds before I was actually in pain. I guess once the pain takes hold it's impossible to stay "on top" of it. However if you're in constant pain I guess this advice is moot. I love that your husband made you room service menus. It sounds like you've got a great support team. Hope you start feeling better soon! __________________ Jessica, Sunny, Spike, Grace, and Marla |

Reply with quote | #32 | Thanks Steph & Jessica. I'm doing a bit better now. The pain has lessened and they are allowing me to use an outside pain management doctor, one that has nothing to do with the hospital I was at. Thank goodness! He's actually the doctor who performed my discogram and I had a very good experience with him. So that appointment is next week on Thursday.
I heard the same thing about taking the pain meds before it's too bad. It just stinks when I sleep through a dosage. I've been sleeping a lot, the painkillers I'm on are pretty strong. My mom is convinced I'm going to become addicted to them, lol.
Hana has been constantly at my side during all this. Harvey is by me a lot of the time, but would rather play and run in the yard with the other dogs. Their personalities are just hilarious to me, they are such opposites. __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Reply with quote | #35 | Hana can probably relate more to you now that she had that knee surgery anyway. Harvey is being a typical guy hahah.
So cute about your hubby making you a room service menu. I need to have my boyfriend do that for me..without having to go through all of that surgery business
