Reply with quote | #41 | My personal General Practitioner is an osteopath and is in a Family Practice with MDs. As I say they are getting along much better than they used to!! He is much like I am as far as doing surgery. He is really apt to research himself and tell you what new treatments are out there when surgery is suggested by a specialist. For example, my knee surgery was only a scope and repair that was mandatory, but the orthopedic doctor would have liked to replace my knee. My doctor felt that I should wait because of my age and lifestyle. He found all kinds of information about replacements knees including that the ones available today will only last about 12 years which would mean another replacement probably considering my age. There are several experimental knees in clinical trials right now that are made of new materials that will allow me to do my horse thing etc. better and are expected to last 20-25 years. __________________ Vicki, Miko and Elsa

Sounds a lot like my doctor. She always researches everything and tells me all that is available. She also tries you on supplements first if she thinks they will help instead of the newest popular drug on TV!! I love my doctor!! __________________ Karen

Reply with quote | #43 | Well after getting some more opinions and consulting with my uncle again, I decided to book the surgery that was suggested. I'm scheduled to be operated on tomorrow morning at 9:30am. Please send positive vibes my way! Thank you __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Reply with quote | #45 | Andrea, we wish you all the best. What hospital will you be in and for how long? Have your husband post or email until you can get back online so we know how you are doing.

Reply with quote | #46 | Thank you Vicki, Stephanie & the pups
I'll be at Rush, by UIC. I'm not sure yet how long I'll be at the hospital, probably not more than a couple of days. I'll have my laptop with me to watch movies and stuff so I'll post on here if I'm coherent enough. Otherwise I'll ask my husband to write a little update. Today is my birthday and I've felt pretty good all day, go figure right? I bought a "grabber"for recovery and the dogs are so scared of it, lol. __________________ Andrea, Hana & Harvey. |

Andrea, I am fairly new to the forum, but I just wanted to tell you I am so sorry about your back problems. I hope you feel better soon, and I also hope you and your husband find new employment. My husband has been through that many times. Stephanie and Vicki, I hope you are feeling better with your knees. We just found out that my husband needs two knee replacements. Always something. Well, take care and good luck. Janet

Reply with quote | #53 | Thank you so much everyone. It really means a lot to me. I'm at home now, resting on our new mattress. This will likely be where I'll be for most of my recovery which is 3 months to a year.
I can walk up and down the stairs which is good. I can also walk short distances right now. They want me to either be walking or laying down in bed.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, they seem to be working!
