"Mommy, the trucks are coming" Robert yelled while jumping up and down in excitement.
Sally came running to watch. I was 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3rd a day she would never forget. The trucks were bringing the 50 dogs from the Black farm in Caine Co. The F.B.I. had called the evening before to announce the invasion they were planning and to inform them that all paperwork was complete. They were officially in business as Sanscrew rescue and rehabilitation.
Annie was the president of their corporation, Ned was Senior V.P., and Sally was kennel manager.
Crew and the neighbors had finished converting the barn and making necessary add-ons. The high school teenagers had been hired as kennel help and they were all coming after school to help in whatever manner necessary.
Dr. Randolph and his students were on their way and it was so much like the first rescue that the memories threatened to overwhelm Sally.
It was too bad that Crew was on his Ralls Co. run ... he would have loved to be in the middle of this excitement.
As they unloaded the dogs and put them in runs the F.B.I. agent was telling Sally about the Blacks and their endeavors there was much more than dogs and meth involved and he would be locked up for many years.
Sally was grateful that with this first rescue the dogs were mostly medium sized and none were threatening breeds. She was planning on taking some classes in actual dog psychology and training . What started out as looking for a pet had turned into something a lot bigger.
The rest of the week was taken up with bathing, grooming , medicating, and contacting rescue groups.
Annie was flying in for the weekend and Crew would be back by then too. They still had King as their pet and Sophie and ShangHi would be there too what fun the dogs would have being together again.
"I talked with Susan's parents at length and we have decided to breed Sophie again and they are insisting on paying for ShangHi's show career. They have started a pet placement education program for all active show breeders. They realize there is a need for pets and instead of forcing pet buyers to by poor quality dogs it is part of a reputable breeder to help people find good quality pets."
"Wait 'til I tell you about the snake charmer I found at one of the kennels I "visited" Crew interrupted Annie. " It is a humdinger"
"Tomorrow, Crew" Annie insisted, "right now we have a walk we need to take. I want to show you the moon!"
Three happy, healthy little Chin were dozing under the table and Sophie understood every word.
